Exactly. I don’t think its a particularly dark base but neither of them are as light of characters as the fluff bunnies sometimes lead us to believe. I like that their relationship is raw and truthful. They don’t lie. And they don’t coddle each other. They both need someone like that.

The most canon way to get to Drarry (even though it is our canon) is to go from the fact that Draco wanted Harry’s friendship so badly in the beginning and he got rejected and that hurt and so he had to hate him because being angry is more dignified and acceptable than a Malfoy being hurt. But I really think that he doesn’t hate Harry. Just that he hates that Harry didn’t want him.
